UEC announces 45.5 percent of election results

THE Union Election Commission announced at a press conference yesterday that 506 winners of a total of 1,121 seats in the lower house, upper house and state/region parliaments have been confirmed.
The country held democratic elections on 8 November with foreign observers from the European Union and representatives of the Carter Center and the President of France expressing words of praise for its success.
UEC Chairman U Tin Aye responded to queries raised by local and foreign correspondents about difficulties encountered in compiling the voter lists, the commission’s budgets and electoral disputes.
According to the UEC, 45.5 percent of the winners of country’s parliamentary seats have been announced. The commission has been announcing election results since 9 November.—Myanmar News Agency
