At the Chinese New Year ceremony held yesterday at the residence of the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Myanmar, the Chinese Ambassador praised the progress at Myanmar has made in the past year toward peace, development and stability.
Union Minister for the State Counsellor’s Office U Kyaw Tint Swe and his wife Daw May Yin Tun attended the event in Dagon Township, Yangon.
The ceremony was also attended by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, Yangon Region Ministers, Hluttaw representatives, departmental officials, ambassadors and diplomats from foreign embassies in Yangon, and other invited guests.
In his message of greeting, Chinese Ambassador H.E Hong Liang said Myanmar has made steady progress in national transition and new strides in promoting peace and development.
“Myanmar has maintained political tability and economic growth. National reconciliation is also proceeding despite twists and turns”, the Ambassador said.
The Chinese Ambassador added that the second 21st Century Panglong Peace Conference was held successfully and the Rakhine issue is on the right track to proper solutions.
“Although there will be some difficulties and challenges ahead, we firmly believe that with confidence, patience and perseverance from the Myanmar people, Myanmar’s national transition will succeed in the end.
“China has played a constructive role in Myanmar’s peace progress and in resolving Rakhine issue. China has launched a series of welfare projects on education, public health, technology, ecology, poverty alleviation and disaster relief in Myanmar, ” he said, “We are also working hand in hand to promote exchanges in media, religious and sports, so as strengthen people-to-people hands.
In his message, Union Minister U Kyaw Tint Swe said it was an honour to receive bilateral cooperation in all sectors based on the Pauk-Phaw relationship, using the term to describe the friendly and close partnership between China and Burma.
“As a friendly neighbor and Pauk-Phaw brother of Myanmar, China will continue to support Myanmar’s peace, stability, development and prosperity. We hope Myanmar will succeed in finding a development path that suits itself.”
On behalf of the Myanmar government, the Union Minister took the opportunity to thank the government of China for its constructive assistance in the national reconciliation and peace process that the Myanmar government was conducting, and for cooperating and standing with Myanmar in the regional and international arenas.
It was noted with much happiness by the Union Minister that there was development in the economic and investment sectors between the two countries.
A total of US$75.19 billion in foreign investment was received in Myanmar as of December 2017, of which 26.42 per cent was from China. China continues to stand as the top investing country in Myanmar, and it is hoped that this mutually beneficial relationship will continue, the Union Minister said.
At last night’s reception, Myanmar and Chinese traditional cultural dances were performed to commemorate the Chinese New Year. — Myanmar News Agency
