U Henry Van Thio talks development tasks, disaster preparedness plans for Sagaing Region, Chin State

Vice President 2 U Henry Van Thio inspected Myittha river-crossing bridge and the progress of dredging operations at narrow sections of the river yesterday, as well as presenting relief to 48 households affected by flash flooding in Kalewa Township.
After hearing reports on the progress of the Chindwin Bridge (Kalewa) construction project and upgrading of road sections and bridges on Kalewa-Kyeekon-Tamu road, U Henry Van Thio called for the bridge to meet international standards.
The Chindwin Bridge, in Kalewa is to be completed by March 2017 and is 70 per cent complete already.
U Henry Van Thio wants projects to benefit the country and local people, calling for further feasibility studies in cooperation with foreign experts for constructing two more dams upstream of Manipura dam to generate up to 1,000 megawatts.
Upon completion of the ongoing project, local people will have access to irrigated water, contributing towards their socio-economic development. The project aims to benefit 80,000 acres of farmland.
During his stay in Kalay, U Henry Van Thio inspected preventive measures against riverbank erosion in Myauk-see village and held talks with local people on education and health matters, also visiting Kalay township stadium where relief aid including tents and boats are kept for natural disasters.
Next, he met with region/district/ township departmental staff in Kalay Station Hall and held discussions on regional development undertakings and disaster preparedness plans.—Myanmar News Agency
