Two ASEAN-OSHNET award-winning companies honoured in Yangon

TWO local companies were honoured in Yangon yesterday with awards presented by the ASEAN Occupational Safety and Health Network (ASEAN-OSHNET).
The ceremony was held at the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), with managing director Dr Khin Maung Lwin of Fame Pharmaceutical Industry and chief operating officer U Than Htaik Lwin of Proven Technology Industry delivering briefs on their measures for workplace safety and health.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population U Thein Swe described workplace safety and health standards as crucial in a resurgent Myanmar, stressing the need to adopt policies to recruit, train and retain a highly skilled and healthy workforce for the country’s economic growth.
The two award-winning companies bore witness to the competitiveness of local companies in the ASEAN region, the Union minister added, encouraging entrepreneurs to try to win prizes in ASEAN-OSHNET’s second awards ceremony, which is scheduled to be held in Cambodia in 2018.
Fame Pharmaceutical Industry Co Ltd and Proven Technology Industry (Toyo Battery) Co Ltd won the Excellent Award and Best Practice awards, respectively, at ASEAN-OSHNET’s first awards ceremony
in Da Nang, Vietnam, on 27 April.
ASEAN-OSHNET was established in 2000 with the aim of acting as an effective network in fostering a safe and healthy working environment to bring about a productive and competitive workforce to ensure a better quality of life.
Following its 14th meeting in Singapore in 2009, the network reached an agreement to present Excellence Awards and Best Practice Awards every two years, with an intention to deepen constructive cooperation and strengthen solidarity among occupational safety and health institutions in the ASEAN community.—Myanmar News Agency
