Turkish delegation visits Thayet War Cemetery

TURKISH Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and party visited the Turkish War Cemetery situated two-miles from Thayet, Magway Region yesterday.
The group held a memorial service to honour the fallen soldiers and laid a wreath on the cemetery.
Next, the Turkish foreign affairs minister and party visited Myakhetaung monastery in Thayet where they met the presiding Sayadaw Bhaddanta Silavamsa and Thahaya Library.
The Thayet War Cemetery is a memorial burial ground for Ottoman soldiers who died in Myanmar after they fell into the hands of British Forces in the Middle Eastern Theatre of World War I. An agreement to maintain the war cemetery was inked between the Turkish Ambassador to Myanmar and Titan Co. on March 29, 2016.
