Third hydropower station opened on Belu Creek

A new hydropower station was opened in Kayah State on Saturday, with Union Minister U Soe Thane and Chief Minister U Khin Maung Oo attending the opening ceremony.
The No.3 Belu Creek hydropower station is located at the reach of Belu Creek and Pun Creek, 13 miles southeast of Loikaw, the capital of Kayah State.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister U Soe Thane said that the Belu creek has so far had three hydropower stations capable of generating 248 megawatts of electricity in total.
The government invites and encourages foreign and local firms to generate electricity as part of the effort to meet growing energy needs across the country.
The newly opened power station was built with the investment by a private company called Future Energy Company on a build-operate-transfer basis.
