THE juvenile court in Zabuthiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw, has convicted a teenager on two felony charges of murder and rape, which he had committed with his three adult friends.
Myo Zaw Win, who was 15 at the time of the crime, was sentenced to seven years in prison yesterday, while the Dakhina District court gave the death penalty to his companions Aung Tin Myo, Kyaw Maung and Zaw Myo Thu on 15 March.
Although the imprisonment of juveniles is rare in Myanmar, minors convicted of felony assault can be jailed. The three men and their teenage accomplice were charged with murdering a man and raping his wife behind Junction Centre in Dakhinathiri Township on 29 September 2015.—Myanmar News Agency
