TAWAM Bridge, a construction project located on Myitkyina-Namti-Tanai-Shinbweyan-Pansawng road in Kachin State is nearing completion. Work began on 1 June 2013 and is ongoing; the structure will be 1,260 feet long and 24 feet wide upon completion.
The final estimation of the construction cost is K4.32 billion. Work on the bridge is 70-percent complete as of this week.
The Union fund will be accessed in order to meet the project completion target which is set in the 2015-16 fiscal year, Staff Officer Daw Tin Moe Khaing of the Department of Bridges said.
Completion of the bridge will allow the Myitkyina-Namti-Tanai-Shinbweyan-Pansawng road to become a Myanmar-China-India economic corridor.
For the 2015-16 fiscal year Kachin State intends to build 23 bridges that are 50 feet long or longer. So far eight bridges have been completed and 15 are under construction.
