Tatmadaw reins in bases of aggression and provocation

  • Tha Sein
  • AT a time when freedom and democracy have been in retreat globally, Myanmar’s emergence out of a half-century of dictatorship with sweeping reforms has been a welcome move. The country has only completed a portion of its democracy journey and it has a long way to go.
At such a time, the clashes between the Tatmadaw and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army-MNDAA in Laukkai region are still fierce, resulting in deaths on both sides, compounded by a series of property losses. The MNDAA overwhelmed with greed, anger and ignorance wantonly violated Myanmar’s sovereign rights, jeopardizing the government’s efforts towards restoring peace in the region. Their act is nothing but a threat to our people and it is beyond our understanding that someone might mastermind it.
Placing “Our Three Main National Causes” as its guiding principle, the Tatmadaw continues to launch area clearance operations and it is a just self-defensive right of a sovereign state to keep highly alert as required by the grim situation in which a civil war may break out
    anytime. This is the reason
why the Tatmadaw has addressed the situation in such a way as to ensure the rule of law while at the same time protecting the lives and property of the people.
The government and the people have felt a strong sense of identification with those in distress in the region and provided the latter with necessary aid, focusing on solving the problems they endured. Towards this end, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi strongly urged all the armed ethnic groups to abandon the armed attacks and to join the dialogue in order to march together with the people on the path of peace with unified strong spirit on the basis of quality.
As already clarified, the Tatmadaw will rein in the bases of aggression and provocation with an invincible will and defend the security of the country and its people, as the recent incidents have turned out to be particularly sensitive and dangerous, at a time when the Union government is working hard to lay firm foundations for peace and stability in Myanmar.
