THE Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, teaming with a group of foreign specialists has conducted a survey in the Northern Mountain Forest Complex (NMFC) from 1 February to 23 March this year in an effort to study biodiversity of special significance in the Khakaborazi National Park and Hponkanrazi Wildlife Sanctuary.
The project was financed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), with the survey reporting the discovery of a bird species in Putao district of Kachin State. According to foreign expert Dr Swen C. Renner, its variety is yet to be identified and will require further zoological analysis. The team has collected 86 species of birds, 32 species of bats, 21 species of rodents and seven species of reptile amphibians, with plans to bring them to the UNESCO for assessment of their habits and genetic makeup.—(OUV).–Myanmar News Agency
