THE 20 acre navia grass plantation in Nyuangpinthaya Village of Meikhtila Township is so successful that the plantation is currently distributing grass free of charge to farmers who register an interest in growing according to plantation owner U Khin Maung Win. Grazing cattle on grass is more economical than buying maize to feed them, he said. The grass only needs replacing only every five to six years according to U Khin Maung who is in the cattle breeding business. U Khin Maung suggested that the arid Meikhtila Township of Mandalay Region would benefit hugely from growing navia grass as would the local breeders and growers.
