State Counsellor welcomed by Chinese Premier in Beijing

State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was welcomed by Chinese Premier Mr Li Keqiang at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing yesterday.
During the welcoming ceremony, the state counsellor and the Chinese premier reviewed the honour guards before the bilateral meeting.
At the meeting, their discussions focused on the five principles of peaceful coexistence, enhancement of bilateral relations and closer cooperation in transportation. China offered 1 billion yuan in assistance to the development of health, education, agriculture and border areas. It also promised technical assistance in response to disasters like flooding, expressing its enthusiasm for cultural cooperation.
Premier Li Keqiang reaffirmed China’s support for the country’s peace process, calling for commemoration of the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China relations, the establishment of the ASEAN-China Economic Community and further enhancement of the Lancang-Mekong cooperation. The state counsellor and the Chinese premier also discussed the setup of an investigative committee to look for an appropriate resolution to the Myitsone dam project. They also talked of exchange of visits among political parties and the peoples of the two countries.
After the discussions, the two countries agreed to a deal on further promotion of bilateral economic and technical cooperation. The deal was signed by Finance Union Minister U Kyaw Win and Chinese Commerce Minister Mr Gao Hucheng. China pledged its assistance to the construction of a bridge in Kunlong in the northeastern part of the country.
State Counsellor invited Premier Li Keqiang to visit Myanmar and he accepted the invitation
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Construction U Kyaw Lin signed a memorandum of understanding with Mr Gao Hucheng to launch a feasibility study for construction.
After the signing ceremony, China’s Premier Mr Li Keqiang hosted a dinner in honour of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her entourage.
In the morning, Chinese Foreign Minister Mr Wang Yi hosted a breakfast in honour of the state counsellor at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing.
After the breakfast, the state counsellor went to the Embassy of Myanmar in Beijing, where she met embassy staff and their families and attended a luncheon hosted by Myanmar Ambassador to China U Thit Lin Ohn.—Myanmar News Agency
