STATE Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi arrived at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, Laos for ASEAN Summits yesterday.
The State Counsellor and party were welcomed at the airport by Laotian Minister for Science and Technology Mr. Boviengkham Vongdara, Myanmar Ambassador to Lao People’s Democratic Republic U Kyaw Soe Win and embassy families and officials.
The State Counsellor and party left Yangon to attend the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and related Summits to be held from today until Thursday in Vientiane, Laos yesterday morning. They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Yangon Region ministers, Charge d’ Affaires of the Laotian Embassy in Myanmar and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to sources, the 29th ASEAN Summit (Retreat), the 19th ASEAN-China Summit to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations, the 19th ASEAN-Japan Summit, the 18th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit, the 19th ASEAN plus Three Summit, the 2nd ASEAN-Australia Summit, the 8th ASEAN-United Nations Summit and the 8th Mekong-Japan Summit are scheduled to be held today.
Tomorrow, the leaders will continue the 14th ASEAN-India Summit followed by the 4th ASEAN-United States Summit. A ceremony to issue a Joint Leaders Statement on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), a closing ceremony of the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and a ceremony to transfer the Chair of ASEAN 2017 to the Philippines will also be held on the same day.—Myanmar News Agency
