Sr Gen calls for review of death sentence on two migrant workers


Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing yesterday sent messages of felicitations on New Year to Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and also Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwon and Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces General Sommai Kaotira.
In his messages, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing wished them good health and better services for their country, calling for a review of the evidence concerning the two Myanmar young migrant workers who have been pronounced to serve a death sentence for the controversial murders of two British tourists on Koh Tao Island last year.
The commander-in-chief expressed his respect for Thailand’s judicial process while stressing the need to avoid a situation in which the innocent rather than the convicted were wrongly punished.
He also expressed his belief that justice will be done under consideration of mutual respect and and bilateral friendly relations between the two countries. —Myawady
