Commander-in- Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing launched CDMA 800 MHz mobile telecommunication service at Cocokyun Township, Yangon, on Saturday.
Myanmar Economic Corporation set up the telecom station with the investment of more than 300 million kyat at the township near Adman islands in eastern Indian Ocean.
Senior General mentioned contributions of Tatmadaw in the development programmes of Cocokyun Township, with an expansion of airfield runway at the township which is under the administration of Yangon region government.
The opening ceremony was attended by Yangon region’s chief minister, senior military chiefs, government officials and locals.
Commander-in-Chief also said that mobile telecom services at the island township is aimed for the development of the area, including internet access and mobile monetary system.
Yangon region’s chief minister U Myint Swe said at the ceremony that his government is focusing on the development of Cocokyun Township as it is a small area, acknowledging the contributions of Tatmadaw in this township which is about 260 kilometre south of former capital.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing then handed over cement bags and galvanized iron sheets to township development committee.
Tatmadaw has operated 23 times of aircrafts and 22 times of navy boats to Cocokyun Township up to December this year for free transportation.
