Secretariat Building tells story of Martyrs’ Day

General Aung San and his colleagues were assassinated at 10:37 a.m. on Saturday, 19 July 1947 while they were gathered to discuss the rebuilding of newly independent Myanmar at a meeting room in the Secretariat Building in Yangon.
The photos taken by Ye Khaung Nyunt and Myat Thandar Maung of the Myanmar News Agency on 17 July 2015 show the historic places where General Aung San and other leaders were assassinated.

Monument to the Martyrs: The inscription reads, “Minister General Aung San, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council of Burma, born on 1st Waxing Day of the month of Taboung, 1276 (Myanmar Era) and died at 10:45 am on Saturday, 2nd Waxing Day of the month of Wagaung, 1309 (Myanmar Era)”.
