In the opening match of MPT Myanmar National League 2018, Sagaing United played to a scoreless draw yesterday against Rakhine United at Monywa stadium, Sagaing’s home Stadium.
The 0-0 result gives each team one point in the standings.
Both teams used their main players including not only local stars but also skillful expatriate footballers in yesterday’s match.
With tremendous support by Sagaing fans, Sagaing United made repeated efforts to score goals from the beginning of the match.
But the efforts of Sagaing’s strikers were for naught, as Rakhine defenders and midfielders were too strong, making it difficult to pass the ball further than midfield. In the second half, both teams changed tactics in an effort to get on the scoreboard. Sagaing United, formerly Mahar United, was promoted from MNL-2 to the Myanmar National League this year. Rakhine United, based in Rakhine State, had used Waytharli Yinpyin in Sittwe Township as their home stadium. Now they call the Thuwunna Youth Training Centre Stadium home.—KyawZin Lin
