Residents set oil lamps adrift into Sittoung River

A CEREMONY to set oil lamps adrift  into the Sittoung River was held in Madauk town, Nyaunglebin Township, Bago Region, on Friday.
Township Administrator U Thein Zaw Kan cut the ribbon to unveil the signboard of the 43rd Tazaungdine lighting festival.
Tactical Operations Commander Col Han Thu, Commander of Nyaunglebin Township Police Force Police Major Ko Ko Kyi and Shwekyin Township Administrator U Kyaw Swe Win formally opened the ceremony.
A total of 12 troupes participated in the event. There was dancing, boat racing and volleyball contests in commemoration of the lighting festival.
Township level officials presented prizes to the winners.
Local people set 10,000 oil lights adrift into the river to pay homage to Shin Upagutta.
