Renovation work to ancient Thai king’s tomb to be sought in G-to-G agreement

THE Mandalay Region Government said yesterday controversial renovation of the tomb of a Thai king on the Linzin hill in Amarapura Township is to be done only after the governments of the two countries have discussed the issue.
Mandalay Region Chief Minister Dr Zaw Myint Maung said those who are carrying out renovations at the ancient archaeological place must show respect to the law as the work has been suspended since the time of the previous government.
According to researchers and archaeologists from Myanmar and Thailand, ancient Thai King Udumbara was believed to have been buried in the graveyard on the Linzin hill in Amarapura.
