PRIORITY will be given to a project on identification of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and it is planned to be implemented only after enacting bylaws for PWDs, said U Myat Thu Win, general secretary of the Myanmar Federation of Persons with Disabilities.
The parliament enacted the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Law passed in mid-2015. The country became a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in late 2011.
According to a report of the Myawady Daily issues on Friday, U Myat Thu Win said registration for the PWDs is important for the disabled persons to ensure their rights and other benefits under the existing laws.
He continued to say that a national committee led by the vice president will be appeared after passing the bylaws which is expected to come out within a few months, hoping that there will be lots of things benefiting for the PWDs with the help of the rules.
The PWD identification card will also help the PWDs get more employment opportunities than before, he added.
