The price of chicken is likely to decrease if the cost of poultry feed is reduced, said Dr. Kyaw Win, the chairman of Myanmar Poultry Business Association.
Poultry feed is 70 per cent of the cost in poultry farming, officials said. Other costs include 17 per cent for breeding chicks, 8 per cent for labour and 5 per cent for medicine.
The illegal inflow of chicken also affects the chicken market. This year, the price of chicken has been unstable due to the rise in the cost of breeding chicks and the illegal inflow of chicken into the domestic market.
The illegal chicken import through border channels adversely affects the poultry farming sector.
The suspension of the mobile inspection teams resulted in the increased flow of illegal chicken imports, according to the chicken breeders.
To enhance the development of the poultry business, swift action must be taken against the illegal importers. A government subsidy is also required in this sector to ensure a strong market, it is learnt. —200
