Recruitment firms pay life insurance to Russian trawler victims’ families

Yangon, 30 July — Families of four Myanmar sailors who died in the sinking of a Russian trawler on April 1 received life insurance payments Thursday from seafarer recruitment and placement companies.
Asia Wave paid US $30,000 each to the families of three men it placed on the ship, while firm Top Choice paid the amount to the family of the seafarer it recruited, Asia Wave director U Kaung Htoo Khaing Win said.
Out of 10 Myanmar sailors placed by the two companies on the Dalniy Vostok, which sank in Russian waters with 132 crew members about, four died in the tragedy.
The Russian government paid US $15,000 compensation for each victim of the tragedy to their families last week.—GNLM
