Rakhine State Advisory Commission led by Kofi Annan arrive in Sittwe

Chairman of Rakhine State Advisory Commission Mr. Kofi Annan, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations, and party together with Union Minister U Kyaw Tint Swe arrived in Sittwe, Rakhine State yesterday.
During a meeting with Rakhine State ministers, departmental officials, town elders and responsible persons from civil society organizations in Sittwe, the Union minister, Rakhine State Chief Minister U Nyi Pu and the Advisory Commission Chairman extended greetings.
Next, the Advisory Commission held talks with the Rakhine State government led by the Chief Minister.
In the afternoon, the Advisory Commission Chairman and party paid respects to Rakhine State Ovadacariya Sayadaws. State Ovadacariya Pathein Monastery Presiding Sayadaw Bhaddanta Pandita expressed views on peace and stability in Rakhine State at the meeting. Next, the Commission Chairman and members visited Rakhine State Hluttaw and held talks with the Speaker of the Rakhine State Hluttaw and members of Hluttaw Committees.
In the evening, Mr. Kofi Annan and party met with town elders, members of Civil Society Organizations and Islamic religious leaders at the guest house of the State Government.—District IPRD
