Despite achieving political reforms in the four-plus years of transition to democracy, Myanmar still needs to make progress in social, economic and management sectors, Lower House Speaker Thura U Shwe Mann said Friday.
At a meeting with local people in Htantabin Township, the Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw called for cooperation with the government in the ongoing process of democratization.
The country has experienced many challenges and overcome them, he said, urging the people to continue on the path.
The speaker stressed the importance of the role of the people, as well as political parties and civil society bodies, in successfully holding the 8 November general election.
To achieve the country’s goal of democracy and a market-oriented economic system, all of the people must participate in the general election, Thura U Shwe Mann said.
