The third regular session of the second Pyithu Hluttaw commenced in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday with 401 out of 426 representatives in attendance.
Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Win Myint delivered the opening speech at the session and urged representatives to perform their duty responsibly and accountably with due diligence.
In response to a query raised by a representative, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye explained the arrangements for construction of one cyclone shelter each in Zeedaw and Kontan Villages in Manaung Township, Rakhine State.
The Rakhine State Government had requested the ministry to build cyclone shelters in five coastal villages in Rakhine State, and the National Natural Disaster Management Committee appropriated Ks259.16 million for the two shelters, according to the union minister.
Union Minister for Commerce Dr Than Myint said that the ministry collects information on commodity prices on a daily basis and sometimes cooperates with merchant associations, if necessary.
The ministry would not intervene in rising commodity prices as prices depend on demand, supply and market, he added. Union Minister for Construction U Win Khaing said that the ministry has issued the Myanmar National Building Code since May 2016 and 17 engineering teams are conducting inspection and quality control of roads, bridges and airports.
