Pyithu Hluttaw representatives query Union Minister on education matters

1The Pyithu Hluttaw session entered its tenth day, with parliamentarians asking the Union minister for education.
During yesterday’s session, the  Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi responded to the questions on promotion of the country’s education sector.
On the opening of a technical high school or a training school in North Okkalapa Township, the Union minister replied that the ministry’s Department of Technical and Vocational Education planned to conduct short-term vocational training courses at Handicraft School on Dhamma Thuka street in Waibargi Myothit ward in the township.
Training programs have been launched for course instructors under the assistance of the Asian Development Bank and Total E&P Myanmar, said the Union minister, adding that the short-term vocational training courses will be opened following the completion of major repair works for the building and installation of necessary equipment.
Regarding three schools in Phahsaung Township, the Union minister quoted geologists as saying that two primary schools and a middle school (branch) in three villages in the township were classified into a risk zone following a landslide last year.
He went to say that risk zone students of the three schools were moved to schools in other villages and new school buildings were built in the villages for better convenience to the students.
As villages at risk of landslide were relocated to safer places and new school buildings were built, reopening of the three schools needs the remark of the Kayah State government, added the Union minister.
Also during yesterday’s session, a proposal calling on the Union government to allow budgets for construction of staff quarters at basic education schools in rural areas was put forward to the parliament in conjunction with submission of another proposal calling for a policy on assessment for learning and teaching at the basic education level. —Myanmar News Agency
