U Ngun Hay of Chin State addressed the Amyotha Hluttaw yesterday about a plan to unsatisfactory road work by Global Village Co. in Hranhrein Village, Haka, Chin State. The project was funded under a 2015-2016 disbursement from the Border Area and National Races Development Department of the Ministry of Border Affairs.
Border Affairs Deputy Minister Maj-Gen Than Htut said the five-miles gravel road was assigned through a tender won by Global Village Company in FY2016-2017 and that the Chin State government allocated funds of Ks383.29 million. He said the road is still under construction with 80 percent of the work done. Chin State government is overseeing the work of the company in order that it is completed according to set standard said the deputy minister. Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Hla Kyaw reported to the assembly that the Irrigation and Water Utilisation Management Department constructed a sluice gate with Yangon Region funds in FY2016-2017.
Local residents had requested the project to protect 4,500 acres of village farms in eastern part of Kyauktan Township, Yangon Region from flooding and sea-water intrusion.
The gate was constructed with assessment and funding oversight by Yangon Region government and Hluttaw. U Okka Min of Taninthayi Region then posed a question about the proper administration of fish sanctuaries during fishing season and prevention of overfishing. Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Hla Kyaw said in FY2012-2013 75 percent of the total local commercial fishing fleet was permitted to engage in commercial fishing.
This total authorized fleet was reduced to 40 percent in FY2015-2016. To conserve fish stock in Myanmar waters in FY2016-2017 fishing was banned during May, June, July and this fiscal year only 30 percent of the total local commercial fishing fleet will be permitted to fish during fishing season. Fishing fleets will be reduced or increased according to fish stock levels. Poachers will be punished, said the deputy
