Primary education sector improvement stressed by State Counsellor

STATE Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi stressed the need for strengthening the country’s basic education sector, calling on teachers to perform educational activities in combination with goodwill, devotion and sacrifice yesterday.
In her address at the opening of a seminar on the implementation of education promotion (basic education sector) organised by the Ministry of Education in Nay Pyi Taw, the State Counsellor said that teachers’ power of sacrifice will be boosted if they have goodwill and devotion to in their teaching profession.
She called on educational stakeholders to give careful thought to whether teachers are able to earn the trust and respect from their students’ parents and whether the country’s education system is laying sound foundations that help students prepare for the challenges of tomorrow.
Acknowledging that teaching primary students is a hard job the State Counsellor highlighted the importance of viewing teaching as a noble profession and working on own confidence of nurturing the next generation.
“If teachers are satisfied with their own job, an education system that can develop the skills of future generations will emerge.” added the State Counsellor.
Next, Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi elaborated on basic education sector’s statistics and called for participation of all in the ministry’s efforts to improve the country’s education sector. The seminar is set to last for three days until tomorrow with officials concerned reading respective papers and those present holding group discussions on the papers.
