President’s Office closely watching torture case

The President’s Office announced yesterday that it is closely keeping tabs on the progress of an abuse case of two underage maids in Kyauktada Township.
The statement said that it has  ordered the Ministry of Home Affairs to give protection to the victims, their families and the man who brought the abuse to the attention of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission.
Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement has also been ordered to help the victims feel secure and to console them, said the statement.
Ministry of Home Affairs has also been instructed by the President’s Office to send a detailed report on the  handling of the case by the Kyauktada Township Police Station.
While keeping watch on the progress of  the case, the President’s Office is also observing the measures taken on the case by MNHRC, which mediated the negotiations between the family of the victims and the abusers.—GNLM
