President U Htin Kyaw and wife Daw Su Su Lwin made their fourth food donation, known as Satuditha, in commemoration of Myanmar’s New Year at Maha Atulawaiyan Sasana Beikman in Thongwa Township in Yangon yesterday.
Local people in Thongwa and nearby villages attended the donation ceremony and enjoyed food and drink.
U Ne Win, regional Hluttaw representative for Thongwa Constituency 1, said of the ceremony that people were very pleased with the event organized by the President and his wife.
“I am very happy and proud of their donation despite them being absent from the ceremony”, said the Hluttaw representative, adding that Daw Su Su Lwin has made such donations every year since 2012.
U Aung Than, a farmer from Ywathagyi village in Thongwa Township said that he was very delighted to see donation of the President at Thongwa.
He expressed his belief that the new government will work hard to meet the people’s basic needs, stressing the need for ensuring better transport infrastructure in the region for the smooth flow of agricultural produce.
U Myo Swe, regional Hluttaw representative for Thongwa Township Constituency 2, called for the construction of village-to-village roads to develop the township.
It can thereby contribute towards development in the health and education sectors of the township, said the Hluttaw representative, adding that measures are needed for local people to have access to clean water in the township.
The food donation ceremony was also attended by members of Sangha led by Yangon Region Sangha Nayaka Committee Secretary Bhaddanta Kaytumalar and the chairman and vice-chairman of Yangon Region National League for Democracy, regional Hluttaw representatives and departmental officials.
Officials offered day meals and alms to members of Sangha and shared merits gained at the ceremony.—Myanmar News Agency
