PRESIDENT U Htin Kyaw requested the right to equal treatment for Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand during a meeting yesterday with Thailand’s minister of foreign affairs, Mr Don Pramudwinai, who is serving as the Thai prime minister’s special representative.
During the meeting at Credentials Hall in the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw, the Myanmar president said the two countries will enjoy stronger economic and trade relations following the completion of the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge No 2 at Myawady.
The Thai foreign affairs minister said Thailand hopes to hold talks on bilateral cooperation during the upcoming Russia-ASEAN Summit, and he invited the president to pay a goodwill visit to Thailand.
Next, the two held discussions on trilateral cooperation between Myanmar, Thailand and Japan in developing the Dawei Special Economic Zone, the expansion of sustainable and responsible investments, further cooperation in the sectors of capacity building and human resources development and measures to upgrade the Emergency Department at Dawei Hospital.
Also present at the meeting were Union ministers Dr Pe Myint and U Thein Swe, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Tin, Thai ambassador to Myanmar Mr Pisanu Suvanajata and other officials.—Myanmar News Agency
