President U Thein Sein met residents of Kantbalu Township, Sagaing Region, yesterday, offering instructions on measures for regional development, including the re-cultivation of winter crops and repairs to transport infrastructure damaged by recent flooding.
During his inspection tour, the president was accompanied by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and union ministers Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe, U Myint Hlaing, U Ohn Myint, Dr Myint Aung, U Kyaw Lwin and U Ye Htut.
The president and his entourage left the township for Kawlin, where he inspected recovery activities being undertaken in flood-affected areas.
In a meeting with local people, the president said a message posted on social media by a local resident brought him to the area. The president said his original itinerary was meant to bring him to Monywa, Kantbalu and Katha townships in Sagaing Region, but he added Kawlin when he saw a status posted by U Aung Myo Wei about his twice-flooded town.
President U Thein Sein pledged socioeconomic development projects under the Emerald Green Development Project as part of the recovery measures for flood-affected areas across the region.
The president and his entourage proceeded to Katha after the visit to Kawlin.
