President holds talks with US HoR Democracy Partnership Chairman

PRESIDENT U Htin Kyaw received a delegation of the United States’ House of Representatives (HoR) led by Democracy Partnership Chairman Mr Peter Roskam at 11 am yesterday in the hall of the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw.
Mr Peter Roskam said during the meeting with President U Htin Kyaw that he understood people had voted for the new government with high expectations, that he believed people would understand that the new government had to take time to implement matters for the benefit of the people and that it was necessary to strike a proper balance between freedom, stability, peace and security.
Mr Roskam also exchanged views with the president regarding the interaction between the Hluttaw and government and the role of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). President U Htin Kyaw agreed that people had placed high hopes upon the incumbent government, adding they are being faced with many challenges.
He went on to say that effort will be exerted to implement the 100-day plan as well as to make both people and international community understand his government, adding that his government is in constant touch with the Hluttaws, that cooperation will be continued in cases of differences of opinion of any kind, that confidence building between and among individuals and groups is important, that freedom, stability, peace and security are intertwined and that awareness is being given to be able to allow freedom with certain limitations imposed.
President U Htin Kyaw discussed matters relating to cooperation with friendly nations inclusive of US and neighbouring nations.
Also present at the meeting were Union ministers U Kyaw Tint Swe and Dr Pe Myint, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Tin, and the US Ambassador to Myanmar.
The US delegation will meet cabinet members, Hluttaw representatives and CSOs, it has been learned.—Myanmar News Agency
