AS the patron of the Central Organising Committee for the 69th Martyrs’ Day, Vice President U Myint Swe inspected preparatory works being undertaken at the mausoleum in Yangon yesterday.
Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and officials briefed the vice president on the ongoing progress of the ongoing decorational work.
The vice president urged officials to arrange everything bearing in mind the convenience of the families of the martyrs and visitors in paying tribute to the national heroes.
On display at the mausoleum will be biographical sketches of the late national leaders and some excerpts from General Aung San’s speeches.
After inspecting the arrangements for visitors to lay wreaths at the mausoleum, Vice President U Myint Swe went to the Bogyoke Aung San Museum where he oversaw renovation works in progress in preparation for the commemoration of the 69th Martyrs’ Day.
A silicon statue of General Aung San will be displayed at the museum alongside rare photographs.
The vice president also went to the Ministers’ Office, formerly known as the old Secretariat, where he inspected the flagpole from which the British Union Jack Flag was taken down and replaced with the Myanmar Flag on 4 January 1948. He also went on an inspection tour of the conference hall in which the national leaders were assassinated and inspected the stone plaque erected in honour of the fallen national leaders.
