Pineapples fetching good prices due to low yields in PyinOoLwin

Pineapples produced in Pyin Oo Lwin Town are commanding a high price in the Mandalay market due to low yields this year, according to the Mandalay fruit depot.
“These days, pineapples from Panootaung and Oakpho villages in PyinOoLwin town are entering the
market. Those pineapples are sweeter.
Next month, pineapples from Hsipaw will start coming in. Pineapple yields fall during adverse weather conditions, resulting in price rise,” said U Ye Lwin, a fruit depot owner from Mandalay.
“Currently, pineapples are priced at K300-500, depending on the size. More pineapples from Hsipaw, Bhamo, and Katha towns will enter the market soon,” he said.
“The pineapples are being distributed for both wholesale and retail. They are also being sent to Magway, Chauk, Nay Pyi Taw, and Taungoo, among other places,” he added.—Min Htet Aung (Mandalay sub-printing house) (Translated by Ei Myat Mon)
