Pilgrims visiting the Alaungdaw Kathapa Pagoda will now be able to ride to the pagoda from the car park on elephants, said U Maung Maung Naing, the administrator of the Alaungdaw Kathapa National Park.
“We are making arrangements for ferrying the pilgrims up the mountain on elephants. Priority will be given to the aged, people suffering from obesity, and young children. We are making arrangements to engage 10 elephants from the National Park and another 10 elephants from the Forest Department.
The elephants will carry pilgrims twice a day — in the morning and in the evening. More elephants will be engaged during the pagoda festival season,” said U Maung Maung Naing.
The park will charge K8,000 per person for the elephant rides. The rides will be offered from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the morning and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the evening.
