ORGANISED by local activists and passionate citizens in Mandalay, a mass walk to hail the Panglong Union Peace Conference— 21st century was held at the Chanayethazan and Mahaaungmyae Townships yesterday.
Marchers gathered at the University Ward in Mahaaungmyaethazan Township and other marchers gathered at the corner of 35 street and 73 street in Chanayethazan Township. The group walked from the corner of 35 street and 73 street to Mingalar Bridge shouting slogans such as “To found the Federal Union”, “National Reconciliation”, “To end the civil war”, and “ Union Peace Conference— the 21st century must be successful”.
“All ethnic groups in our country have suffered from civil conflict for more than 60 years. Only if the fighting ends can our country pursue national reconciliation. We have to establish a federal union through national reconciliation and we hope the 21st Century Panglong Conference will bring solutions. To support the event, we will hold processions for nine consecutive days while other organisations put on concerts and people make speeches” said one organiser Ko Thein Aung Myint.
