Sagaing Regional government will enable over 4,000 villages to receive electricity, said U Than Nyunt Win, Minister for Electrical, Industry and Transportation.
Previously, most of the villages within Sagaing region relied on diesel-powered generators, solar power, mini hydroelectric power and biomass/ husk power for electricity.
“The Sagaing regional government has already invited tenders to generate electricity for the 2016- 2017 fiscal year. We will supply electricity to the villages where there is no electric power supply, said

There are over 1,500 villages receiving power from electric generators, over 1,400 villages, from a solar-powered system, over 1,500 villages from diesel-powered generators, over 140 villages from biomass/ husk power and over 190 villages from mini hydroelectric power.
Over 4,000 villages out of over 6,000 villages receive the electricity in different ways in Sagaing region. According to the 2014 census, 75.8 per cent in the region receive the electricity from private sources while only 24.2 per cent receive electricity from the government power supply.—Myitmakha News Agency
