NON-NUCLEAR SOLUTIONS — ASEAN FMs gather at SEANWFZ commission meeting in Laos

FOREIGN Affairs Union Minister Daw Aung San Suu Kyi attended the meetings of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone Commission, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission for Human Rights Representatives.
The Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) Commission met at the National Convention Centre in Laos yesterday to review the plans for the SEANWFZ treaty being implemented from 2013 to 2017  the ratification of the international agreements on the disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the promotion of the cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
and other regional partners in a bid to help maintain peace and stability regionally and globally.
The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission for Human Rights Representatives reviewed its annual report for 2016 and discussed a framework for its action plans to be carried out from 2016 to 2020 in order of importance. Union Minister Daw Aung San Suu Kyi attended a dinner hosted by Foreign Minister of Laos Mr Saleumxay Kommasith in honour of the foreign ministers attending the meetings.
