New wildlife sanctuary to emerge in forest reserve

TWO existing land parcels – a 47,353 Mon State forest preserve, and 100,000 of land in Kayin State in the custody of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation–will merge to create a massive new forest reserve along the border of the two regions according to a report in Myawady Daily on Sunday.
A preliminary plan for Saytaung Wildlife Sanctuary is being reviewed by a joint committee comprised of forestry officials from the two states.
The intention is to protect the forest for the sake of eco-tourism and wildlife conservation and study.
The land deal is being prepared according to Section 8 of the Protection of Wildlife and Conservation of Natural Areas Law.—GNLM
