TATKON — A new road and a new school are being built in Yeaye Village in Tatkon Township at a cost of K40 million (US$31,000), as provided by the Rural Development Department under the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development and the World Bank.
Another 165 projects are ongoing in Tatkon Township, with each aimed at benefiting the local communities. Projects include building roads and bridges and improving water and electricity supplies, as well as strengthening existing infrastructure, with the total budget for the first fiscal year being K1.78 billion (US$1.38 billion) for the township’s 186 villages. The people-centred project, as it is known, will last four years and prioritises input given by villagers about their needs, with decisions made by the village working committee requiring villagers’ approval.
The ministry has provided training to committee members and funding allotments are determined by the local populace. Tin Soe Lwin-Tatkon IPRD
