A NEW  Latpankhakawt-Galonkone bridge, which will connect 20 villages in Meiktila Township, is set to be built during the current 2015-2016 financial year, according to an official from the township’s Rural Development Department. The new steel-framed bridge with wood flooring will be 10.6 metres long and 4.2 metres wide, and its budget will come from the rural development fund of the Mandalay Region Government. The construction is expected to take one and a half months and will starting very soon, said department official Daw Hla Hla Oo.
A new bridge has become necessary as the current old bridge is deteriorating and becoming unsafe to cross. The new bridge, which crosses a creek, will provide a vital communication route for the rural community of over 20 villages in the township.
