The Union government held a Waso robe-offering ceremony at Uppatasanti Pagoda in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday.
President U Thein Sein and wife Daw Khin Khin Win, Vice Presidents Dr Sai Mauk Kham and U Nyan Tun and their wives, Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Aung Myint and party offered Waso robes and provisions to members of the Sangha led by Chairman Sayadaw of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maharahttaguru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Dr Bhaddanta Kumarabhivamsa.
During the ceremony, the President and the congregation received nine precepts from the chairman Sayadaw, and shared the merits gained.
After the ceremony, those present offered meals to the monks.
