The export of natural gas as of 9th September in this fiscal year 2016-2017 fetched only US$1.2billion, a slump of US$770million when compared to the similar period of the last fiscal year, it is learnt from the Ministry of Commerce.
The export value of natural gas in this fiscal year amounted to US$1,230.765million, whereas that in the previous fiscal year was US$2,002.434million. The decline in the natural gas price resulted in the decrease in the export value. The volume of the export in the two years does not have a large gap, it is learnt.
Shwe natural gas field situated offshore of Rakhine State was discovered in 2014 and its production is exported to China through pipeline. Yadanar natural gas project is conducted by TOTAL Company with its pipeline to Thailand. According to the statistics in 2014, the daily production form Yadanar natural gas field totaled 910 million cubic meters, 711 million cubic meters of which were exported to Thailand and the remaining were for domestic consumption, it is learnt.
Similarly, Yedagun Gas field situated offshore of Taninthayi was discovered in 1992 and its gas production commenced in 2000. About 330 million cubic meters were daily exported from this gas field. Yedagun has not provided for domestic consumption. The Zawtika Project is a gas field development project located in the Gulf of Moattama, Myanmar and its production of 279 million cubic meters is for use of Thailand whereas 64 million cubic meters were locally used.—Mon Mon
