National Buddhist body holds meeting

THE 47-member State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee held a meeting yesterday to discuss religious issues, including disputes, doubts and missions, with prominent monks expressing their points of view.
The committee’s chairman Sayadaw Dr Bhaddanta Kumarabhivamsa presided over the meeting and delivered a speech.
After Religious Affairs Union Minister U Soe Win briefed the committee on the government’s religious undertakings, monks read out progress reports of their respective committees.
The Sangha Plenary of All Schools of Buddhism was held from 24 to 26 May 1980 for the first time in a bid to ensure the purification, perpetuation and propagation of the Sasana, or the teachings of the Buddha. —Myanmar News Agency
