Myanmar wins silver at AFF U-16 Girls’ Championship 2018

Myanmar won the silver medal at the AFF U-16 Girls’ Championship 2018 after they were defeated by defending champions Thailand in the final match at Bumi Sriwijaya Stadium, Palembang in Indonesia, yesterday.
Both teams performed well in the first half displaying speedy play and spirited counter-attacks.
The Myanmar U-16 girls team included goalkeeper Sein Lae Lae Oo, Khine Thazin Oo, May Thet Mon Myint, Pont Pont Pyae Mg, Song Hnin Phwe, Captain Myat Noe Khin, May Thwe Ko, Zin Mar Htwe, Phyu Phyu Win, Win Win and Swe Mar Aung.
The first half ended with neither teams scoring any goal.
Thailand were stronger in the second half, displaying
better stamina.
Myanmar also attacked openly with their speedy play at the start of the second half.
Thailand made an opening goal at the 46th minute mark through Janista Jinantuya.
Despite conceding the opening goal, Myanmar used powerplay and attacked frequently, but all their efforts were thwarted by Thailand’s defenders.
The Thailand keeper managed some excellent saves to deny Myanmar a goal.
The match ended 1-0, with the frazzled Myanmar girls failing to maintain their stamina.
Thailand won the championship, while Myanmar bagged the silver. Viet Nam won the bronze medal after beating Laos in the third-place play-off.
