Myanmar-Thailand bridge reopens following protest

Officials from Myanmar and Thailand reached an agreement Monday on sharing of water from the Mae Sai Creek, which forms a border between the two countries.
The agreement followed a protest by 200 Thai farmers that temporarily shut down the Friendship Bridge spanning the creek, which separates Tachilek in Myanmar from Mae Sai in Thailand.
The farmers sought the suspension of dredging works at the creek, supervised by officials of both countries, that they believed would reduce their access to water for
The farmers lifted their protests at 10:20 a.m. after officials from both countries agreed to suspend the dredging until 23 July.–Maung Yin Kyay
