Myanmar Police Force celebrates golden jubilee

Myanmar Police Force celebrated its 50th Golden Jubilee at Thingaha Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday.
The celebration of the MPF’s golden jubilee was attended by Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Ko Ko and Union ministers, deputy ministers, Chief of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Zaw Win, distinguished guests from the UN agencies and international organizations, foreign embassies in Myanmar and NGOs and senior officers and members of MPF.
In his address, the union minister said that cooperation with UNDP, UNODC, EU and ICRC would result in capacity building of the MPF, thereby enabling the MPF not only to strengthen internal security during  a period of democratic transition and in the future but also to actively participate in the global fight against crime.
He stressed the need of crime prevention, rather than reactive, highlighting the objectives of democratic policing, the importance of police members’ commitment to the rule of law, policing ethics, and human right standards. During the ceremony, the Union minister and the MPF chief presented medals, certificates of honour and gifts to outstanding police officers and duty conscious persons.
