Myanmar Parliamentary Union meets to discuss formation of Region/State Hluttaw Offices

THE Myanmar Parliamentary Union meeting (4/2016) was held in Zabuthiri Hall of the Hluttaw Building in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
It was attended by the Chairman of the Myanmar Parliamentary Union and Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw Mahn Win Khaing Than and Vice Chairman and Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw U Win Myint as well as deputy speakers, region/state Hluttaw speakers, members of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Legal Affairs and Special Cases Assessment Commission and officials of Hluttaw Offices.
In his address, the MPU Chairman said that a message had been sent to the President urging for the allowance of separate Hluttaw Offices in regions and states and for hearing of regional parliaments’ views on a report of the Ministry of Home Affairs on the matter which will be discussed at the meeting.
The MPU Vice Chairman spoke on the occasion, calling for adherence to existing laws and for checks and balances.
MPU members and commission members then expressed their views on the Home Affairs Ministry’s report on the formation of Hluttaw Offices in regions and states.
The meeting came to end with an agreement to set the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Office as the central office of region/state Hluttaw Offices.
