Myanmar, Pakistan discuss military, trade ties

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing called on Pakistan’s President Mr Mamnoon Hussain at his office in Islamabad on Thursday.
They discussed further strengthening bilateral relations and trade.
The commander-in-chief spoke about exchange of visits of leaders at various levels to cement ties between the armed forces of Myanmar and Pakistan. The Pakistani President expressed thanks for Myanmar’s assistance to Pakistan in 1971.
The senior general was welcomed by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Armed Forces of Pakistan General Rashad Mahmood in Islamabad on Thursday morning.
The commander-in-chief inspected a guard of honour before a meeting with the chairman of Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff committee.
This year is the 67th anniversary of Myanmar-Pakistan diplomatic relations and 63rd anniversary of military relations.
After the meeting, the military operations department of the Pakistan Armed Forces explained the security perspective of Pakistan to the senior general.
At 11:30 a.m. local time, the senior general met General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan at the latter’s office.
After the commander-in-chief expressed his heartfelt sadness for attacks against the Peshawar military high school, they discussed regional and local issues.
In the evening, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee hosted a dinner in honour of the senior general and party.
At 1.20 p.m., the senior general received Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman at the office of the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan. They discussed further cooperation in training, exchange of trainees, and sharing of experiences between two air forces.
The commander-in-chief also received Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah of Pakistan at the latter’s office at 3 p.m. to focus on further cooperation between two naval troops.
The senior general met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Mr. Nawaz Sharif at the President Office of Pakistan at 3.45 p.m. Pakistan standard time to talk promotion of trade and economic sectors for enhancing bilateral relations of two countries and further cooperation between two armed forces in the defence sector.
